HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME THIS WAY
HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME THIS WAY
2010 | silk | 280 x 20cm
I have to escape, so I spend the afternoon in the medieval galleries of the museum. Men in cloaks open their arms and papery scrolls unfurl from their hands. Ribbons of text flutter from the open lips of angels, ecstatically heralding the presence of the Divine. Everyone turns their heads skywards, anticipating the arrival of their anxiously awaited beloved. I stand quietly and look at my hands. All I know is that you are gone and there is nothing I can say that will bring you back.
A black silk banner suspended from the ceiling. Designed to reference the scripted speech acts of medieval paintings, the words How dare you unfurl from one end of the banner, speak to me this way from the other end. The first in a series of silk banners.
