2016 | audio encounters for museum audioguide | English and Swedish
The artist uses seven songs composed by Hugo Alfvén in 1908 - based on poems written by art collector Ernest Thiel - as the artistic and historical starting point for a suite of audio encounters. The Interludes propose lyrical and critical encounters between poems, songs and artworks from the permanent collection of Stockholm's Thielska Galleriet, reflecting on the aesthetics of gay cruising in the paintings of Eugène Jansson; the problematic titling of Johannes Collin's 1915 bronze sculpture, 'Neger'; and the juxtaposition of women and flowers in the work of Carl Larsson, among other themes. In addition to narration by the artist, the Interludes feature the voices of Thielska Director Patrik Steorn, artist Gunilla Josephson as well as piano by Anna Christenson, singing by Mattias Nilsson and violin by Martin Lissola. Swedish narration performed by Clara Diesen.
Interludes was produced during a residency at IASPIS/Konstnärsnämnden.
